About Me!

My name is Jessica Mundy and I am a student at Appalachian State University. I am currently a senior majoring in elementary education. I am so excited because in less than a year I will be in my own classroom hopefully back in my hometown of Alexander County. I have one brother, Justin, who is two years younger than me. He is actually a sophomore at Wingate University.

What I like:

I love my church. I especially like hanging out with and going on trips with my youth group. We always go on a mission trip every summer. This past summer we went to Charleston, South Carolina to the M-Fuge camp. While I was there I was assigned to the Games and Rec Track. Through this track I was able to work with children from ages five through twelve. We played outside a lot with these children. I feel like this was a great experience for me because it allowed me the chance to interact with children that are the age I will be teaching one day. It also allowed me to become familiar with people of different ethnicities and backgrounds.

I love hanging out with my family and friends. I am a very family-oriented person. I am extremely close to my family. When I’m with them I’m given the reassurance that everything is going to be okay. I feel this same way when I’m with my good friends. These are the people who I trust with everything. In the crazy, hectic world we live in today, it is good to know that I can go home to my family and friends and know that everything is going to be okay!

I love the beach! It is one of my favorite places. I think it is so peaceful there. It makes me feel like I haven’t a care in the world. I actually went twice this year. Once at Easter and then again during the summer. If I could afford to live there in the summer I would.

When I have time to sit down and relax, I love to read. Some of my favorite authors are Karen Kingsbury and Nicholas Sparks. I also love to read children’s literature. Some of my favorite children’s authors include Dr. Seuss, Judy Blume, Beverly Cleary, Carolyn Keene, and Mary Pope Osbourne. When I read a book it’s like I step into the book and become the protagonist.

What I Dislike:

I absolutely cannot stand bugs that jump. If I see a cricket or grasshopper I have a fit. I think that the reason I dislike these “jumping” bugs so much is because I have a fear of the grasshopper jumping up on me. I don’t particularly care that much about other bugs because I can just step on them and they die, but “jumping” bugs can jump and get away from me and even jump on me!

Another thing I dislike are snakes. They scare me. It doesn’t matter what kind of snake it is. A big reason that I loathe snakes the way I do is because I have seen all these awful movies where snakes bite people and then the people die. They are also so slithery and slimy which means they can meander around without being noticed. If I can’t see where I’m walking, I’m not very likely to take that path for fear of a snake coming out at me! Therefore, in my opinion any snake should be a dead snake!

I am not that picky of an eater, but there are certain things that I have tried and just don’t like. For example, I do not like to eat broccoli, cauliflower, watermelon, or cucumbers (but I do love pickles). The smell of broccoli and cauliflower makes me sick. Personally, I don’t think watermelon and cucumbers have much of a taste. I also don’t like yogurt because it tastes like soured milk. I’m sure there are other foods that I don’t particularly care for, but I just listed the main ones that I can’t stand to eat.

I cannot stand people who are not organized. It drives me crazy! I feel that everything has a certain place that it needs to be and if it isn’t where it should be, it throws everything out of whack! I have always been like this. Even when I was a little girl I liked to be organized. All of my Barbies and babydolls had an order they were suppose to be in. Disorganization is one of the things that I cannot stand about some of my past teachers. Any time you needed to get something from them, they would spend twenty minutes trying to find it on their desk. I guess it is a good thing for me to be so organized since I’m going to be a teacher.

What I Look Like:

I am very tall to be a girl. I stand about 5’11″. I have my father to thank for that. Everyone always tells me that I should be thankful that I am so tall, but to tell you the truth I kind of hate being so tall. It does come in handy though when I am in the grocery store and have to get things off the top shelf. I have shoulder length, curly chesnut hair. My eyes are a cocoa color, which I’m not exactly sure where that comes from because my mother has eyes that look like coal and my father’s eyes are a shade darker than mine. I have an olive skin complexion that is currently more of a dark tan color because I was kissed by the sun this summer at the beach and at the pool.

How I Act:

I find it difficult for me to put down on paper how I act. I am very enthusiastic when it comes to teaching. I think if you as the teacher are enthusiastic then the students will pic up on that and they will be enthusiastic as well. I tend to get very excited when I know I’m about to begin something new. I think this excitement and enthusiasm comes from being an inquisitive student.

This leads me to my second personality trait: I am very inquisitive. I like to know how things work and why they work that way. Since I’m going to be a teacher, I am especially interested in how my students work through problems and learn. As a future teacher I need to be aware of the best way to teach each individual student. Hopefully I will have some inquisitive students and I can satisfy their curiosity about a certain subject while I am also satisfying my own curiosity of how my students learn.

I feel that I am an outgoing person. My friends are constantly telling me that I never meet a stranger. It seems that every time I go somewhere, I see someone that I know. Because of my outgoing personality, I am always up for a challenge and hope that I stay this way when I’m actually in my own classroom. I know there will be students who will be “hard nuts to crack!” These will be the students who do not like school and who I have a hard time identifying with. I hope with my outgoing personality and perseverance, I will eventually get through to these students.

I consider myself loyal. As I said earlier, my family and friends are extremely important to me. Because they are so important, I find it imperative to be loyal to them. When they tell me things in confidence I intend to keep their trust and not run off and tell their secrets to others. I also firmly believe that when people say they are going to do something, then they should keep their word and do what they said they would do.

What You Should Know About Me:

I have always wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. I use to get off the school bus at my grandparents’ house and the first thing I would do was my homework. When I had finished my homework, I would go into their back bedroom and play school. I had a card table that I used as my desk. I taped blank white paper up to the closet doors and that was my chalkboard. I even had a huge stack of papers that my students would do. I would grade these papers and then make them correct them. By the way, yes I did have invisible friends because they were my students!

As I said earlier, I love to read. If I can find a book I can dive into then that is most likely what someone will find me doing. I will be snuggled up on the couch or in a chair reading away. I also thoroughly delight in having the opportunity to sit down with friends and just hang out and watch movies. I love chick flicks like “The Notebook”, “Twilight”, “How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days”, “P.S. I Love You”, and “Dirty Dancin’” to name a few. I’m also a fan of some action movies like “Wanted”, “Pearl Harbor”, and “Top Gun.”

    Hello, hello!

I like your page! Just like you, I would “play school” almost every afternoon! I love it, and I could not imagine myself being anything else but a teacher. It was so much fun pretending to teach and grade papers. We will be doing that soon! I am also really close to my church family, and I also love to read too.

I already know you so well but after reading your page I felt like I learned even more about you. I love the beach as well. I would love to live near the beach. I also love the same books as you. You are the one who got me started on Nicholas Sparks’ books and now I can’t stop reading them. I agree with you in describing yourself as loyal. You are a great friend and that is why I tell you so much.

    Jessica,

I love the beach too! I too feel like I have no care in the world. I went twice this year too! It is just so beautiful and it really reminds me of how lucky we are that we have the mountains and the beach in our state and it is easy to get to both places!

Well girl i was sitting in the library delaying my work and thought i would read a couple pages. I found out several things I did not know about. I find it bizarre that we go through these classes for an entire semester with the same people and yet we do not know anything about them outside of the classroom. You have such a great presence when you are up in front of the class. I would love for my kids to have you someday. Wish you all the luck in the world. -betsy
